About Diede

I am proud to call myself the first certified Intuitive Eating dietitian in the Netherlands. Until early 2021, I was even the only dietitian in the Netherlands with this certification. This means that I completed the (American) training under the guidance of the original intuitive eating pros (Evelyn Tribole and Elyse Resch), am allowed to use the PRO logo and do not use Intuitive Eating as a ‘weight loss method’.

How wonderful would it be if our ‘diet society’ changed into an ‘Intuitive Eating Society’?

Dietician and Intuitive Eating Coach

When I was 18, I started studying Nutrition and Dietetics at The Hague University of Applied Sciences in 2008. I was particularly attracted to the research side. In one year, this interest had turned 180 degrees. The study direction was still right, but I found the social and psychological aspects increasingly interesting.

10 years later, with 5 years of work experience, it became increasingly clear to me that knowledge about nutrition does not change our behavior. I did not feel that I was really helping my clients by telling them what adjustments they could make to their diet, weighing each session and looking together at why certain things had not worked. Frustration and a feeling of dissatisfaction arose, both with my clients and myself, because they were not able to reduce their weight or maintain the changes.

I was looking for a (scientifically substantiated) way to work with my clients on sustainable behavioral change. I was introduced to ‘Intuitive Eating’ through a former fellow student and was immediately enthusiastic. After purchasing the book, I immediately recognized a lot of scenarios that I and my clients also encountered. This was the tool that I had been unconsciously looking for for years! After first applying the principles in my own life, I experienced more peace around my food choices. After this, I slowly started to introduce intuitive eating into my consultations. I initially noticed some skepticism among my clients. After they started working with the exercises, the skepticism diminished, the feeling of actual progress increased, although Frustration and resistance to ‘starting another diet’ turned into the du The reaction of one of the clients: “once you see it, you can’t go back”.

Several scientific studies indicate that diets and weight loss do not in themselves improve our health and can even lead to disordered eating behavior in the long run. Many people start a diet or list of what they can or cannot eat as a child, because they are ‘heavier’ than the norm. I have seen clients who 50 years later still have the same ‘problem’ and have completed diet after diet, filling a bingo card in the meantime! Is this a sustainable solution?

My goal is not to reduce your body weight to the weight you once weighed, what has been in your head for years or what that one doctor or neighbor told you you should weigh. My goal is to give you tools and insights to change your thoughts and behavior positively and in a sustainable way.
Intuitive eating is not intended for people who are overweight or obese [only]. Intuitive eating is intended for [anyone] who wants to live healthily and without stress around food.
